Frequent Breakdowns
One possible cause is a lack of sound in one of the channels. This can be caused by soldering issues in older models, or by outdated capacitors, most often C31. The soldering can be improved by improving the contacts, but the capacitors need to be replaced. Their condition is the most important consideration, as time takes its toll on these components.
If sound fades when the volume is increased, it’s necessary to check the transistors and again the capacitors, but a different type – C63.
The amplifier is cooled by an external radiator grille. Insufficient external airflow leads to overheating; it’s necessary to create more space and improve airflow around the amplifier. If the overload indicator lights up and the amplifier doesn’t turn on, there’s a problem with the input capacitor and it needs to be replaced.
Generally, most issues with the unit can be resolved by replacing parts with similar ones; it’s just important to select the correct replacement parts. The amplifier is excellent, delivering ample power and a beautiful sound.
